Welcome to the new Pelican Art blog. Feel free to look around. Check out the pages and find your student's class. See what new projects they are working on.

3rd Grade

Thiebaud and the Senses
In science the 3rd graders are learning about the senses.  In art we are looking at how artists can stimulate the senses through their artwork.  We are specifically looking at Wayne Thiebaud and his many great paintings and prints of food.   Maybe you remember the cupcakes the 3rd graders painted last year.  This year they are working on gumball machines.  We talked about what we see when we look at a gumball machine, what noises a gumball machine makes and what a gumball tastes like, yummy!
I can't wait to see what they look like when they are finished.
They look fantastic.  Just one more step and then I can hang them up.

Cave Painting
3rd graders looked at one of the earliest known art forms - cave paintings.

On prepared paper they drew in simple animals and filled in the color with oil pastel.
They added a "signature" hand print with chalk pastel.

They painted watercolor in the background and tore the paper edges for effect.

The final outcome looks great!  I love this project because everyone can be successful!

3rd grade is looking good!
