1st Grade

Introducing our new 1st grade class!

Look at all our budding young artists.
I can't wait to see all the projects they create this year.

Armadillo Ray
by John Beifuss
In the next couple weeks the 1st grade will be working with the above book.  It is about an armadillo that is trying to find out what the moon is.  They have already drawn their armadillos:
Now they will be working on a mural that involves stenciling, adding patterns, and writing.  I derived this project from the March 2009 issue of School Arts magazine.

Stencil
Before

After
Each child stenciled an object with paint onto a contrasting color of paper.  The following week they added design with oil pastels. They glued their finished artwork onto a contrasting sheet of construction paper and labeled their object.
So, what did they learn?
-contrasting colors
-repeating shape and line to make a pattern
-fine motor with gluing skills

Put it All Together...

One more I especially enjoy!
